ð Bee Age Calculator
Enter a bee's age in days and its role to discover its age in human years and which life stage it is in.
ð How It Works
Bees live short but incredibly busy lives â and how long depends entirely on their role in the colony. A worker bee lives about 42 days (roughly 5 to 7 weeks) during the summer, a drone lives about 55 days, and a queen can live for 3 to 5 years. That means a queen outlives her workers by decades in bee terms.
Every bee starts life the same way: as a tiny egg that hatches into a larva, is sealed in a cell as a pupa, and finally emerges as an adult. Workers complete this metamorphosis in about 21 days, while queens develop faster and drones take a little longer.
This calculator converts a bee's age to human years by comparing how much of its typical lifespan it has already lived. A bee that reaches the end of its natural lifespan has lived the equivalent of about 80 human years â so a 21-day-old worker, halfway through its life, is roughly a 40-year-old human.
ðĄ Why It Matters
ð Worker Bees
Workers are all female and pack a lifetime of work into about 6 weeks: cleaning cells, feeding larvae, guarding the hive and finally foraging for nectar and pollen.
ð Queen Bee
The queen is the only fertile female in the colony and can live for years. During peak season she lays up to 2,000 eggs per day â more than her own body weight.
ðŊ Drones
Drones are the colony's males. They live about 55 days and have a single purpose: mating with a virgin queen. They don't forage, don't make honey and don't sting.
ð Metamorphosis
Every bee transforms completely: egg, larva, pupa, then adult. Workers emerge as adults after about 21 days and start working almost immediately.
ð Bee Lifespan by Role
| Role | Typical Lifespan | Human Equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Worker Bee | Up to 42 days (5-7 weeks in summer) | Full lifespan â 80 human years |
| Queen Bee | Up to 5 years (1,825 days) | Full lifespan â 80 human years |
| Drone | Up to 55 days | Full lifespan â 80 human years |
| Human | ~80 years (29,200 days) | 80 human years |
