ð How Leap Year Age Calculation Works
Leap years occur every 4 years (with century exceptions) to keep our calendar aligned with Earth's orbit. This calculator counts how many leap years you've lived through since your birth, giving you the total number of extra February 29th days you've experienced.
The formula is simple: we check each year from the year after your birth up to the current year. If a year is divisible by 400, or divisible by 4 but not by 100, it's a leap year. If you were born on February 29, special handling applies â you're a true leap day baby!
ðŊ Why It Matters
ð Calendar Science
Leap years keep our calendar synchronized with the solar year. Without them, our seasons would drift by about 24 days every century.
ð Leap Day Babies
People born on February 29 (leaplings) technically have birthdays only once every 4 years. This calculator shows how many 'real' birthdays they've had.
âģ Time Perspective
Counting leap years gives you a unique perspective on time. Each extra day is a bonus â how many bonus days have you received?
