🧮 How Guinea Pig Age Is Calculated
Guinea pigs have a much shorter lifespan than humans — typically 5-8 years (60-96 months). Our calculator uses a phased aging model that accounts for how quickly guinea pigs mature in their first few months.
🐣 First 3 Months (Pup Stage)
Each month equals about 6 human years. Guinea pigs mature incredibly fast during this phase, going from newborn to fully weaned and independent.
🌱 Months 4-12 (Adolescence)
Each month equals about 1.5 human years. Growth slows down as your guinea pig enters its adolescent phase.
🧑 Months 13-36 (Adulthood)
Each month equals about 0.75 human years. Your guinea pig is now a full adult, equivalent to a human in their prime.
👴 Months 37+ (Senior Years)
Each month equals about 0.5 human years. In their senior stage, guinea pigs age more slowly in human-year terms.

🐣 Pup (0-3 months)
Baby guinea pigs are called pups. They are born fully furred with open eyes and can run within hours. Weaning occurs at 3-4 weeks.
🌱 Adolescent (3-12 months)
Rapid growth continues. Guinea pigs reach sexual maturity at 3-4 months. They develop their adult personality and dietary habits.
🧑 Adult (1-3 years)
Full-grown and in their prime. Adult guinea pigs need regular exercise, a balanced diet of hay, pellets, and fresh vegetables.
👴 Senior (3+ years)
Senior guinea pigs may need special care including softer foods, more frequent health checks, and joint support supplements.
