📖 How It Works

🗓ïļ Birth-Year Model

US Youth Soccer groups players by birth year rather than by age on a cutoff date. Your child's soccer age is the age they turn during the season — the season year minus their birth year — so a player born in 2017 has a soccer age of 10 for the 2026-27 season.

📅 Season Window

The 2026-27 season runs from August 1, 2026 through July 31, 2027. All players born in the same calendar year stay together for the entire season, no matter when their birthday falls during the year.

ðŸ”Ē Reading the U-Number

The "U" stands for "Under." A U10 division is for players under 10 years old, so a player with a soccer age of 9 is placed in U10. This is the age division your child will register and compete in all season long.

ðŸ’Ą Why It Matters

🏟ïļ Correct Placement

Playing in the right age group avoids mismatches on the field and keeps games fair, safe, and competitive for every child, from U5 all the way up to U19.

🏆 Eligibility

Leagues, tournaments, and state cup competitions use the official birth-year chart to determine which division your player is eligible to register for in the 2026-27 season.

ðŸŒą Development

Placing your child at the right level means they train and compete alongside players at a similar stage of physical and cognitive development — the best environment for long-term growth.
