Most people stop counting at "I'm 34". This tool keeps going: exact years, months and days, total weeks, total hours, seasons seen, and the calendar date of every upcoming round-anniversary.
Birth date plus today's date - change "count until" to plan a future milestone
Most "age" tools answer one question and stop. This one answers the follow-up questions people actually have when a form, a landlord or a doctor asks for an exact figure. Everything is computed from two dates: the date you were born, and the date you're counting up to (today by default).
The years / months / days breakdown is calculated the way government forms and medical records do it â by walking forward through the calendar rather than dividing days by 365.25. If you were born on 14 March 1991 and today is 30 October 2026, you are 35 years, 7 months and 16 days old, even though a naive days-divided-by-365 sum would suggest you had not yet reached 35. That one-day-off difference is exactly what gets a lease renewal or a pension form rejected.
The optional birth hour matters more than people expect. Someone born at 04:00 on a given date is technically a further ten or eleven hours older than someone born at 18:00 the same day. If you leave the hour blank the tool counts from midnight, which is the convention used by hospitals and civil registries when no time of birth is recorded.
Because leap years fall every four years, the number of days you have lived is never exactly 365 times your age. The table below shows what each slice of life actually contains, which is useful when a form asks for "total days" and you want to sanity-check the answer before you submit it.
| Age reached | Total days lived | Total weeks | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 year | 365 or 366 | 52 or 52.3 | 366 only if a 29 February falls inside the first year. |
| 5 years | 1,826 | 260.9 | Add 1 day for every leap year crossed. |
| 10 years | 3,652 or 3,653 | 521.7 | Ten years almost always contains two leap days. |
| 18 years | 6,574 | 939.1 | The usual age of majority in most countries. |
| 21 years | 7,670 | 1,095.7 | Includes about 5 leap days. |
| 30 years | 10,957 | 1,565.3 | Roughly 263,000 hours. |
| 40 years | 14,610 | 2,087.1 | About 146 seasons seen. |
| 50 years | 18,262 | 2,608.9 | Half a typical century, 12 leap days. |
| 65 years | 23,742 | 3,391.7 | The common state pension age in many countries. |
| 80 years | 29,220 | 4,174.3 | Approximately 700,000 hours. |
Remember these are the totals for someone whose birthday is today. If your birthday was three months ago, add roughly ninety days. The calculator does that arithmetic for you and keeps the leap days straight, which is why it beats a mental estimate.
Lease agreements, rental applications and mortgage pre-approvals often ask for age in years and months at the date of signing. Being a month out can push you across a lending threshold.
Paediatric appointments record age in months up to the second birthday and in years plus months after that. Vaccination schedules and growth charts are keyed to those numbers, not to a rounded age.
Dependent-child visas usually stop at an exact age â often 18, 21 or 25 â measured on the application date rather than the decision date. Getting the months right is the difference between an approved and a returned application.
State pensions, senior discounts and retirement account withdrawal rules all switch on at a precise birthday. Knowing the exact date you cross the line lets you time the paperwork instead of guessing.
Youth leagues, masters categories and age-graded race results are bands based on date of birth, sometimes with a mid-season cutoff. A quick check tells you which band you fall into this season.
Turning 40 in eight months and four days is more useful for planning a trip than "I'm 39". Set the counting date forward and see the exact day the next decade lands.
Phone date apps usually subtract two timestamps and divide by 86,400 seconds, which quietly drops the leap seconds and can be thrown off by daylight-saving changes if a time zone is attached. This tool counts calendar days directly, so the figure matches what a form or a legal document would expect.
This calculator treats your birthday in non-leap years as 1 March, which is the rule used by UK civil registration and by most countries whose law references the anniversary date. Some systems â including a few US state agencies â treat 28 February as the anniversary instead. If you need that version, enter 28 February as your birth date and the result will match their calculation.
They answer different questions. "Years, months and days" is the human-readable age a form asks for â 35 years, 7 months, 16 days. Total days is the absolute elapsed count â about 13,000 days. Both are on the results panel so you can copy whichever one the form wants.
Yes. Change "Counting date" to "A future date I pick" and choose a month and year. The calculator will then report the exact years, months and days you will have lived on that date, which is handy for planning a lease end date, a retirement date or a milestone birthday trip.
It is a rough estimate based on eight hours of sleep per twenty-four, which is the commonly cited adult average. Real sleep needs vary with age â infants sleep far more, older adults often less â so treat it as a curiosity rather than a health measurement. If you want a more careful sleep figure, use our dedicated sleep-debt calculator instead.
